Today marks the culmination of this year’s Women’s Six Nations Championship. This year due to Covid restrictions, the sides have played in two groups. Group A – England, Scotland and Italy: Group B – France, Ireland and Wales. The top team from each group will play in the final. The six sides will be in action but all eyes will be on the clash between the group winners England and France. This is one of the keenest rivalries in Women’s International Rugby, with England recently coming out on top but often by the narowest of margins. Both sides have posted spectacular wins over their other opponents and so it is all to play for. Games like this can turn on a moment of genius and both sides have in them world class players. For the French there is Safi N’Diaye, Romane Menager, Caroline Boujard and Jessy Tremouliere and for England the likes of Emily Scarratt, Poppy Cleall, Abby Dow and Jess Breach.
Today I would like to highlight the career of England winger Jess Breach. Jess who plays for Harlequins in the Allianz Premier 15’s made her debut against Canada in November 2017, scoring a phenomenal six tries. However she was beaten to player of the match by Marlie Packer – what do you have to do to get noticed! A few days later she played in her second test match, which was the third of the series of games with Canada. This time her try haul was only five.
Jess was selected to represent England in the Rugby Sevens in Sydney, Australia in January 2018 and again made a huge impact on the game.
and here she is again.
For her club Harlequins Ladies she has also been in fine form as can be seen by this round of tries from the 2018 season in which she appears several times.
This season she has continued to carve her way through the opposition defences scoring three tries against Sale Sharks and in an historic game again Leinster at Twickenham she crossed the line three times in the first half.
She has been a settled member of theEngland tema for the past two seasons in their Six Nations campaigns and scored an excellent try against Scotland in this season’s opener. Let’s hope that she and the England women can do the same this afternoon against France.
Postscript: England beat France 10-6 in yet another close hard fought game.
