Some hot jazz in the style of Reinhardt and Grappelli to warm up this rather cold Tuesday morning. In Paris in the 20s and 30s, Reinhardt a world-famous Belgian gypsy guitarist and his congenial partner, Grappelli a French jazz violinist, created a deeply romantic, dreamy and impulsive jazz movement whose music continues to this day.
The Innsbruck gypsy jazz collective Hot Club du Nax was created during night jam sessions in October of the sixth year of the second decade of the third millennium after Christ, in the Innsbruck bar, the NAX, where else?
Characteristics of the band are the enchanting voice of the London singer Isobel Cope and the gorgeous sizzle of the Prague violinist Tomas Novak. From then on, the beguiling song of songs of Django-Swing according to the old school; the two Innsbruck guitarists Arian Kindl and Lukas Bamesreiter. And last but not least, the irresistible conjuror of the double bass, Dario Michele Gurrado from Bologna.
In 2019 the Hot Club du Nax released its debut album “Love is where you hang your hat” in Austria, Germany, Italy and France. In addition to a few original adaptations of selected genre standards, it mainly contains the band’s own compositions, which stylishly transfer the deeply romantic, dreamy and impulsive timbre of gypsy jazz into the present. Psychedelic love poems entwine with a glowing cold look around shady power fantasies and wonderful sadness dances the night with endless joy of being.
The band have just released two Christmas Albums which might be worth checking out especially if you are getting bored with the usual array of festive songs.
