“The Old Bazaar in Cairo” by Clinton Ford, featuring George Chisholm, is generally reviewed positively, particularly for its entertaining lyrics and catchy tune. Some listeners remember it as a childhood favourite and appreciate its nostalgic value. One reviewer even mentioned that their grandchildren enjoy the song.
Clinton Ford (1931 – 2009) was an English popular singer of the 1950s and 1960s. He was born Ian George Stopford Harrison in Salford, Lancashire and changed his name when he began his recording career as it did not fit some of his American songs. In 1968 he made the comic album Clinton the Clown with George Chisholm and the Inmates, which included this song, co-written with Ken Morris and Charlie Chester.
Joan Savage and Ken Morris together with Clinton Ford, who also performs this number, all appeared in a Summer Season show on Central Pier in Blackpool in 1962. In that show it was Clinton Ford who performed this song.
