Avantgardey is a 20-member all-female Japanese dance team led by famed producer and choreographer Akane. Well known for their synchronized dance moves and funny expressions, the group gained worldwide popularity after performing with renowned DJ Steve Aoki at one of his concerts in January 2023. Since then, their fame has gone viral, and they’ve reached over 1.5 million followers combined on TikTok and Instagram. Their goal for competing on “America’s Got Talent” is to share their Japanese soul with the rest of the world and to win their own Las Vegas show.
They participated in the first season of Japan’s Got Talent where they made the finals. Additionally, they participated in the 2022 and 2023 editions of the Japanese dance competition The Dance Day, reaching the final both times. Avantgardey’s audition in America’s Got Talent consisted of performing a synchronized dance routine to Hiromi Iwasaki’s “Cinderella Honeymoon”. All 4 judges voted “Yes”, sending them to the next round.
Avantgardey’s Semifinals performance consisted of performing a synchronized dance routine to a mix of the original Japanese version and the English version of Yoasobi’s “Idol”. Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Sofia Vergara gave them standing ovations. They received enough votes to enter the top 5 on the night, but did not receive enough votes to enter the top 3, eliminating them from the competition.
Avantgardey was nominated by Howie Mandel for the Instant Save Wild Card vote, receiving enough votes to return as the 11th finalist. Avantgardey’s Finals performance consisted of performing a synchronized dance routine to ABBA’s “Money, Money, Money”. All four judges gave them standing ovations. In the finale, Avantgardey and the rest of the top 11 joined together for a music video-style dance performance to “Cinderella Honeymoon”. They did not receive enough votes to enter the top 5 and were finally eliminated.
