Animal Songs – Tigers 4

Our final collection of ‘Tiger’ songs brings together some very diverse numbers.

White Tiger” is a 2015 song by Isobel Beardshaw a British singer-songwriter who records under the name of Izzy Bizu. It is taken from the album A Moment of Madness. It was featured in a 2018 commercial for Cacharel. “‘White Tiger’ is about someone that makes your world stop! They jump [then] you jump. All the things you wouldn’t usually do, you’d do it and realize their hunger and fearlessness for life is extraordinary and that you needed that without realizing it!”

“Year of the Tiger” This is the title track of Alter Bridge frontman Myles Kennedy’s 2018 debut solo album. The story of the record revolves around his father’s death from appendicitis in 1974 and the aftermath. The singer/guitarist revealed to radio personality Eddie Trunk that the record’s central theme was inspired by the death of his father after he refused to see doctors due to his Christian Science faith. Year of the Tiger is an immediate showcase for the acoustic nature of the album, alongside a percussive drumbeat and stand-up bass. Myles sings about moving on in this song, which implies something happened, but he insistently sings “In the year of the tiger I got my kin to save; And I’ll be damned to see them suffer one more day.” The video to that song sees Myles walking down a road, holding the hand of his own son, who can’t be much older than Myles were when he lost his own dad. That certainly makes you think. Very, very powerful.

“Tiger in the Night” is a track taken from ‘Call off the Search‘ the debut studio album by Georgian-British jazz and blues singer Katie Melua, released in 2003. The song was written Mike Batt of ‘The Wombles’ fame who also produced the album. The album became a hit, reaching number one on the UK album chart in January 2004 and the top twenty of the Australian album chart in June 2004. It spent 87 weeks in the ARIA Top 100, certified Platinum for shipments of over 70,000.

“Tiger” is a track from ‘Our Version of Events’ is the debut studio album by Scottish recording artist Emeli Sande. The album was released in February 2012 by Virgin Records, following Sandé’s winning of the Critics’ Choice Award at the BRIT Awards 2012. The track was an itunes store bonus content and specially recorded for the Japanese release of the album. “Tiger” sees Emeli Sandé sing about the joy of being her lover, and how they have both been “saved” in finding each other.

I could not possibly leave the topic of ‘Tigers’ without sharing this marvellous song from Tigger from the Walt Disney animations of Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne.
