Not Gonna Get Us” is a song recorded by Russian music duo t.A.T.u. for their first English-language studio album, 200km/h in the Wrong Lane (2002). IThe song was written by Sergio Galoyan, Trevor Horn, Elena Kiper and Valery Polienko, while production was handled by Horn. Musically, the song is a Eurodance-inspired song, and lyrically it talks about the group running away from people as they don’t understand their love towards one another. It received mixed to positive reviews from music critics, praising the production and highlighted the song as an album standout, however some critics were not impressed by the lyrical content. It was, however, a commercial success worldwide, peaking inside the top-ten in countries including Finland, Italy, Austria, Sweden, Belgium, Ireland and the United Kingdom. The single also peaked at number one on the US Billboard chart, becoming the duo’s only number-one single on the US component charts.

Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence is a track from the soundtrack of the film of the same name, originally released in May 1983 in Japan and towards the end of August 1983 in the UK. It was composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto, who also starred in the film. The song has become a staple of Christmas Music in the USA, Britain and Japan. In 2000, a remix of Sakamoto’s “Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence” titled “Heart of Asia” was released in Europe by German-Turkish disc jockey DJ Quicksilver, under the alias Watergate. This version was a success, reaching number three in the UK and number four in Denmark.

Something” is the debut single of Belgian music group Lasgo. It was first released in June 2001 as the lead single from their debut album, Some Things (2001). It became a hit in the band’s native Belgium, peaking at No. 5 in the Flanders region, and reached the top 10 in several mainland European countries. In February 2002, it was released in the United Kingdom, reaching No. 4 on the singles chart. It also peaked within the top 40 in the United States. In 2013, the song was re-released with new vocals from Jelle instead of Evi. The remade song also features vocals from British pop singer Taylor Jones.

Being Nobody” is a song released in 2003 by English-Irish pop group Liberty X, produced by Richard X, as the lead single from Richard X’s debut studio album, as well as the lead single from Liberty X’s second studio album, Being Somebody (2003). The song is a pseudo-mashup, taking the lyrics of “Ain’t Nobody” and placing them over an instrumental interpolation of the Human League’s “Being Boiled”. Additional elements from both songs were also used such as the recurring synth line from “Ain’t Nobody” and the line “OK, ready? Let’s do it.” in the intro of the main mix are from the intro of “Being Boiled”. The song received mostly positive reviews from music critics. It was deemed “instantly memorable” by RTE reviewer Linda McGee.

Ooh La La” is a song by English electronic music duo Goldfrapp from their third studio album, Supernature (2005). Written and produced by Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory, the song consists largely of a synthesiser and guitar arrangement, and has been described as “a dirty, decadent homage to Marc Bolan”. It features a sample from the 1969 song “Spirit in the Sky” by Norman Greenbaum. The song was released as the album’s lead single in August 2005 to positive reviews from music critics. It was a commercial success, reaching the top 40 on the majority of the charts it appeared, and topped the United States dance chart. The song has been remixed a number of times and was nominated for Best Dance Recording at the 49th Grammy Awards in 2007.
