Today I want to take you back to the beginnings of YouTube. The platform first launched inthe USA in 2005 and quickly became the vehicle of choice for those who wanted to showcase their talents. In these early days the site was full of hopeful singers performing in their homes for the world to see. Strangely 2020 has seen a return to these performances due to the lack of live venues.
Kaz Mills was one such hopeful. She first started posting her videos in 2007 and it was then that I came across her. With a mass of of red hair and powerful voice she was quite distinctive. We begin with her version of the Peggy Lee classic ‘Fever’. This is not an easy song to sing and yet she creates an excellent cover.
Obvious for a recording made in the mid 2000’s it lacks the 1080p of current videos but it is worth it for the vocals alone.
Kaz continued to produce regular covers during 2007-2009. Here is her version of the much covered ‘I’m Yours’ by Jason Mraz
After 2009 her output became less frequent. She was involved in a YouTube tour in 2010. In 2011 she returned with this cover of Jessie J.
Finally in 2012 she released a video of her own song ‘Morning to Remember’ and that was virtually her last hurrah on YouTube. After which there were no further updates.
This version is the one that she released as a single in January 2012.
However although she stopped being a YouTuber, she has gone on graduate from King’s College London, with a degree in Classics and Film and from there to become succesful as an International Marketing Director for Universal Pictures. How do you like them apples! It just shows what can happen when you post on YouTube!
