The next direction on our list for research is ‘right’. I would expect that there will be many songs using the word in the title bearing in mind it’s other meaning of ‘correct’. Anyway we will see if my suspicion is well founded as well head into the archives.

I’m Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter” is a 1935 song with music by Fred E Ahlert and lyrics by Joe Young. It has been recorded many times, and has become a standard of the Great American Songbook. It was popularized by Fats Waller, who recorded it in 1935 at the height of his fame. The song had a major revival in 1957 in a Coral recording by Billy Williams with orchestra directed by Dick Jacobs. It reached #3 on the Billboard magazine charts. A reported million-seller, it was awarded a Gold record.

Have I the Right?” was the debut single and biggest hit of British band The Honeycombs. It was composed by Ken Howard and Alan Blaikley, who had made contact with The Honeycombs, a London-based group, then playing under the name of The Sheratons. It was released in June 1964 on Pye. The single’s sales started slowly, but by the end of July the record started to climb in the UK. At the end of August the record reached No. 1. Outside the UK “Have I the Right?” was a big success too. “Have I the Right?” sold worldwide about two million copies within a year.

All Right Now” is a song by the Free. It appeared on the 1970 album Fire & Water, which Free recorded on the Island Records label.. Released as the album’s second single, “All Right Now” hit number 2 in the UK and number 4 on the US Billboard. In July 1973, the song was re-released, reaching number 15 on the UK chart. In 1991, a remix of the song was released, reaching number 8 on the UK chart. The song also remains as a staple of classic rock.

Right Place, Wrong Time” is a song by American musician Dr. John. It was the first single from his sixth album, In the Right Place and became his biggest hit single. During the summer of 1973, the song peaked at number nine on the U.S. Billboard. It is ranked as the 24th biggest hit of 1973. In Canada, the song reached number six.

Bloody Well Right” is a song by the Supertramp from their 1974 album Crime of the Century. It appeared as the B-side of the single “Dreamer” in 1974. Listeners in the United States preferred it to the A-side, and “Bloody Well Right” became their breakthrough hit in the country, peaking at number 35 on the Billboard.

Right Back Where We Started From” is a song written by Pierre Tubbs and J. Vincent Edwards which was first recorded in the middle of 1975 by Maxine Nightingale for whom it was an international hit. In 1989, a remake by Sinitta, reached No. 4 in the UK.. The music features a significant repetitive sample from the song “Goodbye, Nothing to Say”, written by Stephen Jameson and Marshall Doctores, which was recorded first by Jameson under the name of Nosmo King, and then by the Javells featuring Nosmo King (UK #26), both in 1974.

“Get it Right Next Time” is a single taken from Night Owl a 1979 album by Gerry Rafferty it reached number 20 in the UK. The album was released a year after Rafferty’s Platinum-selling album City to City. While not quite performing as well as its predecessor, Night Owl still managed enough sales to achieve platinum status in Canada, gold in the United Kingdom, and gold status in the U.S. The title song reached No. 5 on the UK charts. The album made the UK Top 10.

(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)” (shortened to “Fight for Your Right” on CD releases) is a song by American hip hop group the Beastie Boys, released as the fourth single released from their debut album Licensed to III (1986). One of their best-known songs, it reached No. 7 on the Billboard in March 1987. The music video for “Fight for Your Right” begins as a mother and father tell their two sons to stay out of trouble while they are away. When they leave, the two boys decide to have a party, hoping “no bad people show up”; this prompts the arrival of Ad-Rock, Mike D, and MCA at the party. Chaos ensues!
