Richard Thompson – Oops I Did It Again

Yesterday’s post discussed various covers of The Cure’s song ‘Lovesong’. This reminded me of Richard Thompson’s excellent ‘1000 Years of Popular Music’ project. He finishes the album with an awesome cover of Britney Spears’ ‘Oops I Did It Again’ complete with some 16th century guitar stylings.

Richard who began his musical careeer with Fairport Convention, has become one of greatest folk musicians and composers that England has ever produced. This can be seen in his work with his then wife Linda and a slew of solo albums, with which he followed his Fairport days. His latest offering ’13 Rivers’ (2018) has been very favourably reviewed – “a raw, unfiltered affair from a veteran artist who shows no signs of slowing down” (Pop Matters).

Here is track from the album.

However it is impossible to talk about Richard without delving deep into his back catalogue. So here is an early version of ‘Withered and Died’ from the album ‘ I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight’, with Linda.
