These are eight sisters from the mystical land of SpokanLand, travelling to every corner of the planet to seek out and spread the music of different peoples, from Africa to the Netherlands. They sincerely believe they can bring together the entire human* world , at least through their concerts. *Human is a person according to the Spokane.
Spokanki shatters all standard notions about ensembles After all, it’s a multi-genre musical-theatrical performance in the ethno-avant-garde style. It’s touching and funny, whimsical and often absurd, but profound and vibrant. Spokanki bypasses the generally accepted rules of show business , as the stage features flawless live polyphony combined with authentic instruments, allowing for the creation of original arrangements of any song—from complex structures to popular classics.
A reviewer commented “Honestly, I thought I couldn’t be surprised in show business! I thought everything had been done before in the 90s and I’d just listen to good music. But these girls are a fountain, a fireworks display, pure energy. Their voices are so amazing! Many show business figures should take a sober look at their creativity and stop tormenting audiences. I’m not an expert on the correct name for all this polyphony, when everyone sings different or the same thing. It’s probably that most beautiful word – a cappella. It was so beautiful! Every song is a little performance!”
Across all genres, in all languages, in all parts, with magnificent voices, unusual stand-up routines, original instruments, dancing, joking, improvising, in character, in light, theatrically, grotesquely, minimalisticly, their own, others’, impromptu – the Spokaneers transport any audience to a completely new genre of performance at their concerts, one that is impossible to describe or convey; it must be seen and heard with your own eyes and ears.
