SYSTIR

SYSTIR, meaning “sister” in Icelandic, has emerged from the legendary ANÚNA to forge a distinctive and eclectic musical identity focused on the female voice. Featuring six or more performers on stage, Systir combine contemporary performance techniques with ancient traditions, crafting an ethereal and immersive soundscape. Their repertoire draws heavily from indigenous European songs, including sean nós, connecting medieval to modern storytelling.

Their performances span original songs and arrangements alongside works by the 11th-century abbess Hildegard of Bingen and contemporary artists such as Janelle Monáe. Central to their music is the story behind the songs, personal and historical, and they explore universal human emotions and experiences that resonate broadly across audiences.Systir are Amelia Jones, Ash McGlynn, Caitríona Sherlock, Judith Lyons, Lauren McGlynn, Lorna Breen, Sara Weeda, Sara Di Bella, Sigrid Algesten, and Andrew Boushell.

In 2024, Systir toured Italy and Japan, with performances in Germany, Ireland, Finland, Iceland, and a tour of China scheduled for October 2025. The group is currently completing their debut album, set for release later in 2025. Irish composer Michael McGlynn serves as the artistic director of Systir, guiding their creative vision.

They recently had a few concerts in Iceland in May (their first time there), alongside some very special appearances in various places with a debut in Germany at Mainzer Musiksommer in late July. And there is a new video just dropped – Caitríona beautifully capturing the classic “Skye Boat Song” in her own inimitable way!
