Hailing from the rural outskirts of Cornwall, Ted Jasper grew up on the Southwest coast where, inspired by his surroundings, he began an obsession with producing, remixing, and re-working electronic music. The short but powerful discography of London based house prospect Ted Jasper has shown the producer is willing to paint outside of the lines.
Drawing inspiration from artists such as Erykah Badu, Miles Davis, Kanye West, St Germain and Salif Keita. Ted Jasper’s 2018 release ‘One Day’ reveals these influences, combining elements of West African music into a soulful house EP. Ted Jasper’s music has gained support from the likes of Gorgon City, Joris Voorn, Laurent Garnier, Phil Taggart, Toddla T, Mixmag, Worldwide FM, Majestic Casual and The Sound You Need.
Ted Jasper karate kicks as he enters the music scene under the new alias, Berlioz. At this point, I pretty much accept with open hands anything that Jasper makes but when it comes to the latest, “nyc in 1940,” my arms are wide open! This jazzy little house track is the perfect song to play when entertaining your guests by the pool. Berlioz is the new moniker that will house all of Jasper’s downtempo house and I’m more than ready for what’s to come. So, while the guests are hanging by the pool, I hope this artist is hard at work in his music room, getting some releases ready for us.
In 2022, Ted Jasper stepped out with a cathartic and deeply personal release ’No Bad Dreams’. Elegance and soul and paired together ever so tastefully on berlioz’s charming new single “deep in it” with Ted Jasper. “deep in it” borrows from house and electronica for a jazzy experience that feels simultaneously dance-friendly and somewhat dreamy. Jazz that refuses to obey form is my kinda jazz.
