Black sheep is an English idiom that describes a member of a group who is different from the rest, especially a family member who does not fit in. The negative overtones of the use of the term ‘black’ in this context is now considered to be somewhat racist and therefore is in less common usage.

Other musicians involved included singer/lyricist Ronnie James Dio and drummer Gary Driscoll of blues rock band Elf, and cellist Hugh McDowell of ELO. Satisfied with the two tracks, Blackmore decided to extend the sessions to a full album.

“Black Sheep” is a song by Dorothy an American rock band from Los Angeles, formed in 2014. The band consists of vocalist Dorothy Martin, drummer Jason Ganberg, guitarists Devon Pangle and Eli Wulfmeier, and bassist Eliot Lorango. It is a single taken from ‘Gifts from the Holy Ghost’ their third studio album released in April 2022 by Roc Nation. The album was inspired by an incident in which a member of Dorothy’s staff nearly died from a drug overdose but recovered after singer Dorothy Martin prayed for his survival. Martin’s recent sobriety is another influence on the album. Most of the album’s lyrics are about spirituality and healing, despite its “swaggering” hard rock and classic rock sounds.
