It seemed to be a no brainer to follow a post about Alligators with one about Crocodiles. After all as the song goes: ‘See you later Alligator. In a while Crocodile’.
“Crocodile” is a song written the famous songwriting partnership of Leiber and Stoller. It was recorded by the Coasters in 1958 and released as a B side. It was finally re-released on the compilation album ‘There’s a Riot Goin’ On: The Coasters on Atco in 2007.
“Crocodile Rock” is a song written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin, and recorded in summer 1972 at the Chateau d’Herouville studio in France (it was listed as “Strawberry Studios” in the album’s credits), where John and his team had previously recorded the Honky Chateau album. It was released in October 1972 in the UK and November in the U.S., as a pre-release single from his forthcoming 1973 album Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only the Piano Player, and became his first U.S. number-one single, reaching the top spot in February 1973, and staying there for three weeks. In the U.S., it was certified Gold in February 1973 and Platinum in September 1995 by the RIAA. “Crocodile Rock” is dominated by a Farfisa organ, played by John. The lyrics take a nostalgic look at early rock ‘n’ roll, pop culture, dating and youthful independence of that era.
“Crocodile Shoes” is a single by Jimmy Nail. It was written for the television drama Crocodile Shoes, and became a chart hit for Nail in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Sweden in 1994 and 1995. It is featured on the album of the same name. The album was released in 1994 by East West Records and peaked at number two on the Uk Albums Chart. It was the Christmas Number two that year.
“Crocodile Song” is a song from the album ‘Folk is the New Black’ (2006) by Janis Ian. The band is just Ian (guitar and vocals), Viktor Krauss (upright bass) and Jim Brock (drums), so spare that every note stands out. The arrangements sometimes veer toward country, but overall have fewer non-folk elements than any of her other records. All the lead vocals were recorded live – “Do not try this at home,” the notes warn – but somehow her voice sounds better than ever, from terrifying fragility recalling the mid-70s albums (“All Those Promises”) to full-voiced enthusiasm (“Life Is Never Wrong”). For the first time in years, there are no co-writers, and that may be why the compositions are even leaner than usual, whether deadly serious (“Haven’t I Got Eyes”) or whimsical (“The Crocodile Song”) which she wrote after a visit to the zoo with her grandchildren.
“Crocodile” is a song by electronic band Underworld, and was released as a single in September 2007, in Japan first, in order to promote their album Oblivion with Bells. On September 5, Underworld released the music video for “Crocodile” on their website. This song, as well as its Oliver Huntemann Remix, is featured in the game FIFA Street 3. The single peaked on the UK Singles Chart at number 93.
