So, another interesting selection of songs about Dreams and Dreaming. For today we have reached back in time to find some real classics.

I’ll See You in My Dreams” is a song, composed by Isham Jones, with lyrics by Gus Kahn, and published in 1924. It was recorded in December that year, by Isham Jones conducting Ray Miller’s Orchestra. It charted for 16 weeks during 1925, spending seven weeks at number 1 in the United States. The song was chosen as the title song of the 1951 film of the same name, a musical biography of Kahn.

“I’ve Got a Pocketful of Dreams” is a song from Sing You Sinners a 1938 American musical comedy film directed by Wesley Ruggles and starring Bing Crosby, Fred McMurray, Ellen Drew and Donald O’Connor. Written by Claude Binyon, the film is about three singing brothers who go to California to find their fortune. The film introduced the two Crosby hit songs “Small Fry” and “I’ve Got a Pocketful of Dreams”.

This Time the Dream’s on Me” is a song composed by Harold Arlen, with lyrics by Johnny Mercer. It was written for the 1941 film Blues in the Night when it was sung by Priscilla Lane. It was also a hit in 1941 for Glenn Miller (No. 11 and Woody Herman (No. 8).

The Impossible Dream (The Quest)” is a song composed by Mitch Leigh, with lyrics written by Joe Darion. The song is the most popular song from the 1965 Broadway musical Man of La Mancha and is also featured in the 1972 film of the same name starring Peter O’Toole and is also featured in the 2021 film Nobody. The complete song is first sung by Don Quixote as he stands vigil over his armour, in response to Aldonza (Dulcinea)’s question about what he means by “following the quest”.

Only in My Dreams” is the debut single by American singer-songwriter-actress Debbie Gibson. Released in December 1986, as a maxi single, and then in remixed form in February 1987, the song was written by Gibson in 1984, two years before she recorded it. This dance-pop song reached No. 4 on the U.S. Billboard singles chart in the summer of 1987.

Shattered Dreams” is a song by English group Johnny Hates Jazz from their debut studio album, Tuen Back The Clock (1988). Written by the band’s lead singer Clark Datchler, the song was released in March 1987 as the album’s lead single. “Shattered Dreams” entered the UK charts in March 1987 at number 92, but gained popularity through extensive radio play and video rotation on MTV and quickly climbed the charts, peaking at number five in May 1987 and spending three weeks at that position and a total of 16 weeks on the chart.
