Vivid Undress, stylized as vivid undress, is a pop rock band from Tokyo, formed in 2014. The band originally comprised: kiila (vocals and guitar), rio (keyboard), yu-ya (guitar), syunn (bass), and utsumieri (drums). They had been involved in music separately, until the met and formed the band. In 2018, Tomoki (drums) replaced utsumieri and became the current line up known as “Vivian”.
They have gained a great following as a talented band whose charm is its reliable technique backed by a career that has been steadily growing in the live house performances and the colourful songs that are not bound by the band colour. One of the major features of the band is the narrative live performance created by the lyrical lyrics spelled out by Kiila’s original world view and her voice which has been described both as sometimes hot and sometimes transparent.
Shortly after their formation, they released a demo recording “Zero” exclusively at Tower Records Shibuya store. It was described as “2014” Tower Records Shibuya’s best newcomer “and the most influential”, and an exceptionally large development is made at the store. Recorded 6th place on the weekly general chart of Shibuya store, 1000 pieces sold out and became a big topic.
In May 2015, the mini album “Unveil”, which was the first to be distributed nationally, was released. It attracted a lot of attention because of the progressive arrangements. In May 2016, the second mini album “Prevail” was released. The music video for the song “Coelacanth Dance” has exceeded 500,000 plays, and the album has also recorded large sales.
The band announced the launch of the independent label MONOLITHIC RECORDINGS in March 2017 because the affiliated office was closed. Called “NO office, NO label”, all band management duties are shared among the members, and a restart is planned. In July 2017 the third mini album “ENDLESS” was released nationwide from their independent label. It ranked 6th on the Oricon Weekly Indies Chart and is still selling well.
The first live show at Daikanyama UNIT, which was the largest capacity of the independent project so far was held in March 201831, was sold out and a great success. At the same time, in response to the fans who want to resell the discontinued “Zero”. The album “Re: 0”, which is a re-recorded version of all the songs, was made available at the live venue.
In January 2019, the fourth mini-album “Naked Naked” was released nationwide from the same independent label. Ranked 25th on the Oricon general daily chart on the first day of release. Even in the Oricon comprehensive weekly chart in the first week of release, it ranked 67th, which is the highest showing so far.
In January 2020, the band embarked on their first solo tour in Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka. The final show of the tour was scheduled to be held at Shibuya CLUB QUATTRO in March but was postponed due to the influence of the new coronavirus, so the live broadcast was held at Ikebukuro Harevutai. There, they announced the release of their second major mini album “Henshin Complex”. In August, their second major label mini album “Henshin Complex” was released from Tokuma Japan Connexions. On the first day of release, the album ranked 20th on the Oricon Daily Chart. On the first week of its release, it ranked 56th on the Oricon Weekly Chart, both of which were their highest rankings. On 4 December, to celebrate the first anniversary of their major label debut, the band released their first live DVD “Kimi ni Arui Tame no Monogatari”.
In April 2021 the band announced that they would be going on a one-man live tour “IGN Tour” from May, visiting various places that had been postponed due to the effects of the new coronavirus. The mini album “Ai no Gain” will be released on June 23rd from Tokuma Japan Communications.
