Plumhall (MIchelle Plum and Nick Hall) are a staple of the Bradford music scene. I first saw them play together as part of the larger Hall Brothers Band at the Topic Folk Club in Bradford. Since then they have played several times at St. C’s and we have seen them all over the area in a variety of incarnations. We are glad to call them friends and are delighted to promote their music in this blog.
‘A Darkness That Won’t Leave The House’ is a track off their second album ‘The Ghost of Noise’. Katy and I had the great pleasure, along with a number of others, of appearing in this video. The song is about mental health, caring for others and reaching out when you need help. Nick and Michelle put a request on social media asking for people to send in home video’s of lighting a candle for hope…a small flame that cannot go out. They received video clips from the UK, Ireland, Hungary, Germany, France, Spain and Russia.
The second video for today is probably my all time favourite track of theirs (although Uniondale runs it close). This is ‘No Fear’ from their first album ‘Thundercloud’ and it is performed at the legendary ‘Rothbury Roots’ in Rothbury, Northumberland. We had the great pleasure of seeing them twice at this venue and both times they nailed it. On the first occasion they were surprised to find us having a drink in the bar, not knowing that we were going to be there. Indeed it was a spur of the moment thing for us as we saw the gig advertised whilst we were on holiday in Northumberland. A great night.
